Thorn Technologies helps Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design Develop Wound Management Mobile Application

Thorn Technologies Assists JHU’s CBID to Develop Diabetes Wound Management Application for Android Phones

Thorn Technologies aided Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design in building an Android smartphone application that will allow nurses to manage and track the progress of wounds of elderly diabetic patients.

Thorn Technologies worked closely with students and advisors from the JHU CBID program to build an application that allows nurses to:

  • Log and save information about wounds, including location, length, width, depth, drainage, odor, and sponges used.
  • Enter treatment protocols and therapies for the wound.
  • Email a Wound Summary report that contains wound information inputted by the nurse to specified recipients.

The initial version of the application was used to gather user interface feedback from nurses.

“This mobile application will be extremely beneficial to diabetes patients, as improved wound data capture and communication between nurses and doctors will have a positive impact on outcomes,” says Kevin Keenahan, a JHU CBID graduate student who is leading the project. “With this app, medical practitioners will be able to better monitor and treat wounds caused by diabetes.”

“We’re proud to work with Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design on another innovative healthcare solution,” says Jeff Thorn, Founder and CEO of Thorn Technologies. “The Hopkins students really understand how technology can help in the treatment of patients, and we’re happy to help them develop these life-changing solutions.”
